Overview

• What a process is (PID, PPID, state)
• Foreground vs background execution
• Signals and exit codes (high level)

Common commands

• ps, pstree
• top / htop
• pgrep / pkill
• kill, killall
• jobs, bg, fg

Quick notes

• Exit code: echo $? (last command status)
• Find a process: ps aux | grep <name> or pgrep <name>
• Graceful stop: kill -TERM <pid> then kill -KILL <pid> if needed
